Step By Step

March 13, 2023 by Bill McNulty

The world atilt, who will step up and set it right?

Problems to solve so you can fall sleep at night.

So easy to say step by step until the job is done.

Fast steps needed, no choice but you have to run.

Take enough little steps and it transforms your day.

Step up to the mike, be prepared to have your say.

Sometimes to move forward, you have to step back.

Look around, make sure you are still on the right track.

Step, step, stride, pace, check the progress you have made.

Steps, out of time or late, and dreams will begin to fade.

The first step and the journey begins.

Steps done right and everyone wins.

Name That Verse

March 6, 2023 by Bill McNulty

Poem titles should have meaning to get you to read.

Never sure about some titles, that I must concede.

I add a new title to each verse that I post.

See the blog on the website that I host.

Label that verse “poetry in motion”

Another one could reflect devotion.

A tribute to a fallen friend that you want to share

You look for a title to make everyone read and care.

Politics, sports, many should be easy to name.

My ego always hope one title could claim fame.

A poem title with meaning and you take another look.

A great title and you have no choice but to buy a book.

Some lines have more meaning than the title will ever show.

Then there are lines with meaning that only the poet will know.

The Computer Age

February 27, 2023 by Bill McNulty

What used to go on paper, now goes on your laptop.

When you need something, it’s the internet to shop.

Passwords to remember, better write them down.

Check Google, so you know where to go in town.

To stay current, you must learn how to update.

Need the latest version to remain first rate.

You learn what’s on the internet isn’t always true.

You master Facebook to keep up with your crew.

Today, you smile and you are so proud.

You now store your pictures in a cloud.

When you are trying to figure what comes next,

Learn how to send your grandchild another text.

Footprints In The Snow

February 20, 2023 by Bill McNulty

Easy to see those footprints in the snow,

Can you imagine where they will go?

Perhaps a young child seeing their first snowy season.

Adults moving quickly, you know they must be freezin’

Double lines with boot prints, a child pulling their sled.

Paw prints with boot prints, showing a dog being led.

A handful of snow gone, look out for a flying snowball.

Always an adventure when the first snow begins to fall.

Snow angels and many small steps with children at play.

And so many more can’t wait for the snow to melt away.

Habits and Doing the Same Thing

February 13, 2023 by Bill McNulty

A favorite chair where dad would always like to sit.

Doing the same thing all the time is called a habit.

So often those habits really define who we are.

Many people always buy and drive the same car.

Driving to the same job, traveling the same streets.

The game or movies, always sitting in the same seats.

For whatever reason, routine has the certain appeal.

Dining in restaurants, same day, getting the same meal

Repeating the same jokes with some of the worst puns.

Watching all those Hallmark romance movie reruns.

Making the same moves, expecting new results, a mistake.

All our habits, the good ones to keep, the bad ones to break.

Baseball And The Ladies

February 4, 2023 by Bill McNulty

Amazing how scoring with the ladies and baseball sounds the same.

Some young men can’t help but brag about how they play the game.

Reaching first base, it’s a sweet touch and maybe a kiss.

Getting to second base, it’s a lot more with the young miss

Third base and reaching home plate, you know what that means.

You can close your eyes and picture those romantic scenes.

The romantic fool who thinks he’s a charming know it all.

Will be blindsided when the lady throws him a curveball.

Springtime, and which teams will win the pennant races

Springtime, and they are looking for love in so many places.

There are days when we don’t know who is a deserving boy scout

Now tell me, is America’s favorite pastime baseball or making out.
