You think and plan and work, then fate says not today.
Chance, bad decisions, misfortune, all not going your way.
So many thoughts in your mind, all causing such stress.
One thought, then another, another second guess.
What can you do, that your have never done before?
Looking for new tricks that you can try and explore?
“What If” wondering what you can go out and try?
Now you are embarrassed so badly you can cry.
And sometimes there is nothing you can rhyme,
When your field goal kick, hits the post with a “donk”.

We Remember
World War II and everyone has tales to tell.
Often, they remember a soldier who fell.
December 7, Pearl Harbor, beaches of Normandy,
Date and places, woven into our country’s history.
Some have war stories they can’t even repeat.
Battles won, our troops wouldn’t accept defeat.
Each branch of service did more than their part.
Many a Veteran returned with a Purple Heart.
The Greatest Generation with many heroes to name.
Yet none of these brave warriors wanted that fame.
They proudly served under the red, white and blue.
Today, we honor you, we thank you, we remember you.
Mother’s Worries or Mother Worries
(is worry a noun or a verb? )
You know a mother’s worry will never end.
From across the country, worries extend.
Make sure you eat enough.
Kids, don’t play so rough.
Make sure you eat right?
Did you sleep well last night?
Make sure you eat a healthy meal.
New car? Make sure you get a good deal.
Make sure to wear your hat and dress warm.
We are expecting a major winter storm.
And if there is a concern that was left out,
One more thing, for Mama to worry about.
Another book of poems
Recently, we published another book of poems, Verses That Would Make My Dad Proud. Over the last few years, I have been fortunate. Family and friends have purchased my books and donated for the causes that I want to support. For that, I am always grateful. As I always have to add a marketing thought, you can check out what books we have published at apoetatheart.com. Holidays coming and at a loss for a gift for a loved one? Consider one of our books.
There is a fund at Congregation Or Shalom, Stephen McNulty Fund that assists teens that is in our son’s memory. Because of how Alzheimer’s touches our family, we dedicate one book just for Alzheimer’s research. If we can touch you to help, we are always thankful.
Rain and More Rain
Clouds and a light rain becomes a thunder shower.
Add lightning and you feel nature’s mighty power.
You know what Mother Nature has in store,
When a light mist becomes a heavy downpour.
It rains all day and well into the night.
More rain until dawn’s first light.
Rain always needed for a bountiful harvest.
Too much rain and you are not always blessed.
Listen And Listen Again
In any voice, we listen for a distinctive tone.
Cheering in a loud shout or hurt in a soft moan.
Melodic prayers that cause you to rejoice.
An authority command in a hard voice.
Some voices soft that you strain to hear.
Some tones demanding that you rightly fear.
Words that are questions may cause you to hesitate.
Some uttering words that you always want to debate.
Hateful tones that always raise your ire.
Teasing tones causing laughs we call satire.
Listening and hearing are not always the same.
When we don’t pay attention, who is to blame?
