Do we all remember that masked hero of long ago?
Now the heroes are first responders you may know.
Going out and wearing a mask is now what we expect
For you and everyone, it is now our job to protect.
For Halloween, it’s not a mask that’s going to scare.
It’s a perfect covering to show how much you care.
Stop the virus spread, that is really our task.
Do your part and please wear your mask.
Find a mask with flair and style you can always wear.
As we all wish this virus of 2020 would disappear.

Trapped In a Poet’s Mind
If we ever publish this book, no one should buy it. No one will
buy it. If you are already writing successfully, you certainly don’t
need my words of encouragement. Assuming you are not writing
with confidence, how can I assume I offer the tools or words to move
you to write in any form. My ego believes my poems are entertaining
but that will never be enough to promote another book of poems.
I am certainly not in a position to offer a textbook on grammar and
correct form on writing in any format. While I don’t have the credentials,
I have a strong belief that writing is a skill that can always be honed to
better present ideas and stories. Information shared can only be
understood, if it is effectively presented. What I want to offer is encouragement to write in prose or poetry. No doubt you are using email and text in today’s world. Work to improve your skills. Let my book be a reminder to always work at writing and expand your craft by using it.
As Summer Fades Away
Before long, these warm summer days will fade away,
The sunny days of July and August will be yesterday.
Sitting in the shade and enjoying a gentle breeze
Knowing before long, it’s fall and the winter freeze.
Football season is about to begin
How many football polls am I in?
Days are shorter as the sun sets in the west,
Children back to school, ready for the first test?
Work and we are planning for the last quarter of the year,
Confident that our market plans are precise and clear.
Be they far away or in a neighborhood very near,
Always be in touch with those that you hold dear.
As the warm and sunny days of summer disappear,
Just remember, those same days will return next year.
What Would the Words be Today?
I see our son’s handwriting from forty years ago.
Can only wonder what his words today would show.
What would he write about the world we live in today?
I picture the love for his nieces would always portray.
There were always loving cards for his mother.
What would his words be as the big brother?
I have the baseball card list for cards he was looking for.
If you asked about last night’s game, he knew the score.
We see your name signed to an old birthday card.
Picturing you today is both easy and oh so hard.
The heart and the mind do their best to remember.
Sweet Stephen, borne on the first of September.
Just In Case
Just in case you have missed me and my poems, I have been working on another book of poems and thoughts on promoting writing. Great project to work on when you are staying home. ( most of the time ) There will be a few to share over the next few weeks. Some will be new and some you may have seen as past efforts. Stay tuned.
Good Deeds and Bad News
Bad news is the first thing you always hear.
Bad news headlines, every day of every year.
Gossip and bad news always travel oh so fast.
You always hope that such bad news won’t last.
Good news and helping others drifts to the back page.
No doubt it’s time to offer these heroes center stage.
There are so many taking time to help those in need.
Its’ time to salute those always doing a good deed?
Mentor and tutor a student to advance one grade.
The courage to make positive moves should never fade.
