A few weeks ago, after another shooting, the TV reporter was interviewing a resident and his reply to what did he think about a neighbor being shot was “it’s not a shock anymore”. I couldn’t get that phrase out of my head. I don’t have answers and I don’t like writing poems on the subject. I have to share what I feel and I welcome your comments.
The senseless killing that we have all come to deplore,
Night after night, it’s not a shock anymore.
Not a simple solution rolls through my mind.
Can we find answers and leave no one behind?
Our old neighborhoods are just not the same.
Another child is killed and who is to blame?
Causes and solutions should be for all of us to explore.
Then maybe we can stop saying it’s not a shock anymore.
