You can ignore many of the rules
You can stop dealing with fools.
You know when you are pretending to be smart.
You know how to pretend it is someone else’s fart.
You should know how to shut up and not say a word.
You will know when your advice will never be heard.
There will be memories locked away with no sweat.
There will be names and faces you will easily forget.
Being old, respect is still something you have to earn
Always remember, that you are never too old to learn.

On the field, pop up, fly out or base hit
Everyone waits for the umpire to call it.
Runner on the go, stolen base or thrown out
Is he safe or out, the replay will leave no doubt.
A home run or a great catch right at the wall.
Skill and luck help where you finish in the fall.
On the line, base hit with only a check swing.
Don’t all players dream of a World Series ring.
So every day, suit up and play the game.
Play it well, and the next stop, Hall of Fame.

Agree or disagree, that’s your choice to make
Speak up and let us hear what you must share.
Passion in your voice and we will know you care.
Ideas, opinions, facts, may help us all understand
Maybe, just maybe, our own platform will expand
May there always be options for all to really explore.
Thinking of a voice silenced, you won’t hear any more.

Love thy neighbor, kindness, help, do your part.
Why is it that some never have it in their heart.
How often have the words been said
How often have the words been read
For some the flames of hate so easily fanned
With hate in some that I can never understand
Communities that stand up to help always stand out
Time to step up and be heard, that’s what it is all about
Love and inclusion will conquer hate every single time.
Find something you need to help in this Monday rhyme.

Today, Steve would have been 60 years old. His life taken almost 40 years ago. For me, writing has been therapy. So here goes.
Stephen was first born followed by Scott and Vikki. Often, I think there were sibling secrets that parents would never get. We could not be prouder of the adults Scott and Vikki have become. Much love to both of them and their families. Today, we think about Steve
I wrote this verse seven years ago with no name but it goes without saying it was with Steve in mind.
What Would He Have Been?
There are days or nights that we think of him in so many ways,
You know that you can’t go back and change the yesterdays.
A face on TV reminds you of him from long ago,
A picture that your memory will always know.
Favorite dishes that you know he loved to eat,
Nieces that you wonder how he would greet.
Baseball cards and what he would collect,
What kind of loving wife, would he select.
A dream of him, there will always be a tough pull,
For us, we accept a wonderful life that is almost full.

Mad Hatter, “I’m late, I’m late
For a very important date”
On time, early, late, how will you score
Up early, meeting, dress and out the door.
Schedules, deadlines, in your mind or not at all
Phone rings, late, cause you must take the call.
Are you on time when there’s someone to meet.
Running late, adjust your watch, yep, you cheat.
For some being late will never be a crime
For others being early is being on time.
