The Days of Awe are here.

Soon we are there, the High Holy Days,

When many a Jew davins and prays.

Summer ends and it’s September or October,

The Days of Awe are here for us to remember.

Parents and family no longer sharing our life,

And all those suffering in great strife.

We grant forgiveness,

We ask for forgiveness.

In the past year, did we really do all that we can,

We wonder and consider what is next year’s plan?

Will there be good health and happiness to enjoy?

Will your daughter meet that handsome special boy?

On Yisker we remember those loved ones of our past,

While wondering what future plans for us are cast.

Our prayers become a joyful song,

Done right, a connection so strong.

People will join you for High Holiday Worship,

They will stay if we build a relationship.

It is a labor of love sharing verses that I write with everyone. BUT Labor Day and taking the day off. Next Monday look for another poem. You never know if something shows up earlier.

There are Stephen memories of so many yesterdays

Baseball, coaching, being there when your team plays

Family pictures with more memories to remember

Birthday memories and thoughts every September

Great America, that was always a great family day

Sledding with neighbors down our family driveway

Always playing catch by our house on Montauk Lane

And some of those teen years were tough to explain

You being home on time on those school nights

Playing Monopoly and who gets bragging rights

Those first lessons driving Grandma’s old car

Good times, bad times, just part of who we are.

Eighty years, not enough. country music sweetheart

The Dolly look, phony glam and all done for show

From the mountains of Tennessee to stages everywhere

Her music, her voice, helping those forever in her care

Helping kids to read as only Dolly could

In our time, how many legends will we ever find

Dolly Parton, this country legend, one of a kind.

Why does the world want to tag who you are.

Sometimes, unjust, when labeled from afar.

Judgements knowing little of your background.

Labels given no matter how they may sound.

Maybe a mistake tag that will never be you

Careless labeling with absolutely no clue

Some ambitious fools want to label everything

Regardless of all the drama it always will bring.

Perhaps you want to be labeled an all-star

But only YOU can define who you really are

How do you know what will always be best.

How do you know you’re ready to leave the nest.

How do you know what direction you should take.

How do you know what’s real and what’s fake

How do you know who to give your trust

How do you know when a cause is just.

How do you know when to play it by ear

How do you know when to volunteer

How do you know when it’s time to walk away.

How do you know what to write on any day.

How do you know how your garden will grow.

How do you know what you really should know.
